Katowice welcomes the first regular cargo flight from China

On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, a Boeing 777F registred B-227W (serial number 42230, manufactured 2013) of the Chinese Central Airlines landed at Katowice Airport. It was the inaugural flight of a new regular cargo service from Chengdu to Katowice. The new flight will operate three to five times a week. The long-haul Boeing will take about nine hours to travel from China. The Boeing with registration B-227W has a special Cargo City Katowice Airport sticker on its fuselage to mark the launch of the new flight. Central Airlines also flies from Chengdu to Prague.

This is further success of Katowice Airport in the field of air cargo transport. This spring, Lufthansa Cargo launched the Frankfurt - Katowice route, which is flown twice a week by its Airbus A321 cargo aircraft. Cargo aircraft of international logistics and courier companies FedEx, UPS and DHL also depart from the airport every weekday.

From January to the end of September 2025, 32,554 tons of cargo were handled in Katowice, which is 5,730 tons more (+21.4%) than in the same period of the previous year. The result for the first nine months of this year is the best in the history of the airport – 2,080 tons more were handled than in the same period of 2022, when the previous record of 30,474 tons of cargo was achieved.

The airport's infrastructure is growing rapidly. A new parking lot with 900 spaces was put into operation in the spring. Thanks to a project worth approximately 60 million crowns, Katowice Airport offers approximately 6,700 parking spaces.

The airport's aircraft maintenance area is being expanded with another hangar with two stands for category C aircraft. The investment is due to be completed in 2026 and the facility will be leased to Wizz Air. Katowice Airport currently has the largest infrastructure for aircraft maintenance of all regional airports in Poland. Pyrzowice currently operates three hangars, with six service stands for category C aircraft. The most important and largest investment is the construction of a passenger terminal with an area of 50,000 m2. It will be equipped with boarding bridges and connected by a tunnel to the "Pyrzowice Lotnisko" train station.
